Preparing to Serve: Rewards for Excellence

Christian leadership ought to be by excellence. The concept of excellence must be inculcated into us and in our service to God. There should be something of excellence, and very great excellence in our walk with God. God is in for excellence. In God’s excellent call of love, He distinguishes between performances.

God has prices. His prices are not all the same. He has mediocre prices and hero prices. A missionary sending church must produce everything in excellence – excellent lovers of God, excellent leadership, etc.

God is committed to excellence, to perfection. The command is, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect” (Mathew 5: 48.) God in this command is not joking. He means business. He is not calling us to an impossibility. Perfection is true and possible. God is calling us to a reality. Let your efforts spring forth from this call to perfection.

This command carries the entire seal of God’s call. To be lukewarm to this command is to disobey. You have been anointed and called unto the perfection of God. Not to strive forth to your best is to sin greatly.

Anything short of the glory of God is abominable and should be absolutely renounced. Imperfection is part of our past history with Satan. Perfection is our present history with Christ. The separation between the two histories is an eternal one.

The commitment to perfection is very crucial to all of us as Christians. It determines what gospel we preach. It determines what missionaries are sent. It determines what church we build with Christ.

There is no comparison between that which is in Christ and that which is of the world. The difference between perfection and imperfection should stand out very clearly. Do every thing to perfection.

Evangelism is calling the imperfect unto God’s perfection. Consequently, only the perfect can do such a piece of work.

The practical implications of this call to perfection and the separation between the lost and the saved must be worked out. Write out what you will do in co-operation to God’s call unto perfection :

Write out things that you ought to have done in the past, for which to ask God for forgiveness:
