Why should I continue to fast for the nation when it is not working for me?

His face looked downcast as there was clear evidence that everything was not moving right. He came to me to pour out his ordeal and ended in a tone of resignation “Pastor I have decided to stop fasting for the nation.”

I sat down to listen to his predicament. “Life has not been fair with me. Why should I be fasting and others are prospering. I have fasted faithfully for three years and I can testify that the nation is advancing and nothing is working for me. I am left behind in the proceeds and so I have decided to quit. I am ending my commitment after this discussion.”

I took time to observe the sad face on a healthy body; his dressing also demonstrated that he was not living from nothing. I immediately understood I was dealing with the spirit of ingratitude, which always helps a person to concentrate on what he doesn’t have and makes him blind and despise every other blessing he possesses.

I asked him to explain to me what had made him so bitter and tearfully, he began, “no job, not married” and then he paused to say it was finished. Then I asked him to tell me some things which were working in his life. Then he started as if to downplay what he had to say “I am in good health, my parents love me…”. By the time he got to the seventh, he was already smiling and I stopped him at the 10th when he was still motivated to continue to announce his blessings.

Those who will go far in their commitment are those who are motivated by the great things which God is already doing even if they look small. They see the working God and understand that He will work His way through our every need, it is just a matter of time. God who has started a good work will surely take it to completion.

We fast for the nation with much hope. We recognise what God has done and we continue to weary him on what He will do. We know that if God has blessed our neighbors, then God is in our neighborhood.

Our brother ended the discussion with a re-engagement to fast for the nation to our God who is able to complete what He started. Faithful is His name.????
